Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tick-borne encephalitis virus vaccine is an inactivated viral vaccine used for active immunization to prevent infection by the tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) virus. The TBE virus is endemic in parts of Europe and Asia and can cause severe neurologic disease. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against the TBE virus, providing protection before exposure. It is administered intramuscularly as a three-dose primary series with a possible booster dose if ongoing risk exists. The most widely available formulation in the United States is marketed as Ticovac and manufactured by Pfizer; other brands are available internationally. The World Health Organization recommends vaccination for people living in or traveling to endemic areas who are at increased risk of exposure[1][3][5][7].
