Tick-Vac is a veterinary vaccine developed by LIMOR (Laboratorios Limor de Colombia) for the control of infestations by the cattle tick, *Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus*. The vaccine is based on recombinant protein technology, typically utilizing the Bm86 midgut antigen. When administered to cattle, it stimulates the production of specific antibodies in the host. As ticks feed on the vaccinated animal, these antibodies are ingested and subsequently bind to the tick's midgut cells, causing significant structural damage to the digestive tract. This interference leads to a reduction in the tick's reproductive capacity, including decreased egg laying and larval viability, as well as increased adult mortality. Tick-Vac is utilized as part of an integrated pest management strategy to reduce the environmental impact of chemical acaricides and combat tick resistance in livestock management.
