Overview

TIDM (TLR2-interacting domain of MyD88) is a synthetic peptide developed by researchers at Rush University Medical Center to treat Parkinson's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. It functions by competitively inhibiting the interaction between Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and the adapter protein MyD88, a signaling pathway implicated in neuroinflammation and the pathological spread of alpha-synuclein. By disrupting this interface, TIDM reduces the formation of Lewy bodies and protects dopaminergic neurons. Preclinical studies involving intranasal administration in mouse models have demonstrated improvements in motor functions and a reduction in brain inflammation, suggesting potential therapeutic utility for Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia, and multiple system atrophy.
