Overview
Tien-Hsien liquid (THL) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal mixture marketed as a dietary supplement for cancer patients. It is composed of several herbal extracts and has been studied for its potential anticancer and immunomodulatory properties. Research indicates that THL induces apoptosis in various human cancer cell lines through the activation of the caspase cascade (caspase-3, -8, and -9) while sparing normal cells. In clinical settings, a specific formulation known as Tien-Hsien Liquid Practical (THL-P) has been evaluated in Phase IIa trials for refractory metastatic breast cancer, where it demonstrated improvements in quality of life and immune function (increasing CD3, CD4/CD8, and NK cell counts) with a favorable safety profile.
