Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tifblue blueberry extract is a phytochemical-rich substance derived from the 'Tifblue' cultivar of the Rabbiteye blueberry (*Vaccinium ashei*). It is primarily studied for its anticarcinogenic and antimutagenic properties. In vitro research has demonstrated that ethanol and acetone/water extracts of Tifblue blueberries significantly inhibit the proliferation of various cancer cell lines, including cervical cancer (CaSki, SiHa) and breast cancer (MCF-7, T47-D). The extract's bioactivity is attributed to its high concentration of polyphenols, such as anthocyanins and flavonols, which act as antioxidants and modulate cellular pathways involved in carcinogenesis and mutagenesis.
