Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tifinorphine is a small molecule oripavine derivative being developed by Beijing Ziduhongye Technology Development Co., Ltd. for the treatment of opioid dependence. Pharmacologically, it functions as a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor (MOR) and an antagonist at the kappa-opioid receptor (KOR), a profile similar to that of buprenorphine. This dual mechanism is intended to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and reduce cravings while maintaining a lower risk of abuse and respiratory depression compared to full opioid agonists. The drug has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in China as an oral hydrochloride tablet formulation for relapse prevention in detoxified patients who have completed methadone maintenance or other detoxification protocols.
