Tigloidine (also known as **taigilidine**) is a tropane alkaloid and a muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. It is the tiglic acid ester of tropine and is structurally related to other tropane alkaloids like atropine, though it possesses a distinct pharmacological profile. In clinical practice, particularly in China, it is utilized as an anesthetic adjunct to suppress the cervical dilation response and other smooth muscle spasms during hysteroscopic surgeries. By inhibiting muscarinic receptors, tigloidine reduces vagal-mediated reflexes and promotes smooth muscle relaxation, thereby improving surgical conditions and patient safety when combined with general anesthetics like propofol. Historically, the drug was also investigated for the management of movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease and Huntington's chorea, due to its central anticholinergic effects.
