Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TIK-201 is an investigational pharmaceutical-grade liquid formulation of melatonin, originally developed by Tikvah Therapeutics. It was primarily designed to treat sleep-onset insomnia in children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As a melatonin receptor agonist, TIK-201 mimics the action of the endogenous hormone melatonin by binding to the MT1 and MT2 receptors in the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus. This action helps to regulate the circadian rhythm and facilitate the onset of sleep. Clinical development for TIK-201 reached Phase 2 trials; however, the program appears to have been discontinued following the cessation of operations by its developer.
