Overview

Tilbroquinol is a halogenated 8-hydroxyquinoline compound with antiprotozoal activity, primarily used for the treatment of intestinal amoebiasis. It is often administered in combination with tiliquinol (as in the product INTETRIX) and has also shown activity against *Vibrio cholerae*. The precise mechanism of action remains unclear, but it is believed to involve chelation of metal ions essential for enzymatic processes within protozoa, thereby disrupting their metabolic functions and DNA synthesis. Tilbroquinol was approved in France, Morocco, and Saudi Arabia; however, it has been withdrawn from markets in France and Saudi Arabia due to hepatotoxicity concerns. In Morocco, its use is restricted to intestinal amoebiasis[1][2][3][4][5][6].
