Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tilia viridis extract is a **botanical extract from the flowers or leaves of the Tilia × viridis tree**, a hybrid lime tree species. Tilia genus species have been widely used in traditional medicine for their sedative, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antiproliferative activities. The extract is rich in flavonoids such as quercetin, rutin, isoquercitrin, and kaempferol, which contribute to its main bioactivities. Notably, the extract demonstrates **antioxidant effects, acting as a scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS)** including hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anion, and has a **selective antiproliferative effect on some tumor cell lines**, potentially via modulation of oxidative stress. Its mechanism for central nervous system effects is thought to involve both antioxidant activity and modulation of GABAergic and serotoninergic neurotransmission. Traditional indications include anxiety, sleep disorders, colds, fever, cough, and as a neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory agent[1][2][3].
