Overview

Tilidine is a synthetic opioid analgesic developed in Germany in the late 1960s and introduced to the market in 1970. It is primarily used for the treatment of moderate to severe acute and chronic pain, including postoperative and cancer-related pain. As a prodrug, Tilidine is rapidly metabolized in the liver and gut to its active metabolite, nortilidine, which exerts its analgesic effects. To mitigate abuse potential, Tilidine is frequently co-formulated with naloxone, an opioid antagonist.
