tiloronoxim

Tiloronoxim is a small molecule antiviral and immunomodulatory agent developed by the Institute of Occupational Health and Poison Control at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It is structurally related to tilorone, an orally active interferon inducer. Tiloronoxim has been investigated primarily in China for its potential to treat silicosis (pneumoconiosis caused by inhalation of silica dust). Its mechanism involves induction of endogenous interferons (alpha, beta, gamma), which stimulate immune responses including activation of bone marrow stem cells and enhancement of humoral immunity. Clinical studies have evaluated its pharmacokinetics and efficacy in silicosis patients[1][9]. Tiloronoxim is metabolized to tilorone in humans[9].
