Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Timacor is an oral cardiovascular medication containing timolol maleate, a nonselective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker (beta-blocker). Marketed by Ethyx Pharmaceuticals, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of hypertension and the management of patients in the post-myocardial infarction phase to reduce cardiovascular mortality. The drug functions by competitively blocking both beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors, which leads to a reduction in heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure. While timolol is also widely utilized in ophthalmic formulations for glaucoma, the Timacor brand specifically refers to the oral tablet formulation used in cardiology.
