Overview

Timcodar is a synthetic small molecule developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals, primarily investigated as an efflux pump inhibitor. It was designed to inhibit both mammalian and bacterial efflux pumps, thereby enhancing the activity of other drugs such as antibacterials (e.g., rifampin) and chemotherapeutic agents by preventing their expulsion from cells. Timcodar has been studied in phase 1/2 clinical trials for solid tumors, with additional preclinical research suggesting potential applications in multi-drug resistant bacterial infections and possible antiobesity effects. Its mechanism includes potentiation of antibiotics against gram-positive pathogens and synergy with tuberculosis treatments[1][3][6][7].
