Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Timolol + betamethasone valerate is a topical combination drug consisting of timolol, a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker, and betamethasone valerate, a potent synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid. Timolol acts primarily by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors, reducing intraocular pressure when used ophthalmically and providing antioxidant protection to endothelial cells when used topically. Betamethasone valerate exerts anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects by modulating gene expression through the glucocorticoid receptor. This combination has been investigated for use in managing skin conditions such as those induced by cancer therapies (e.g., EGFR-TKI or ALK-TKI-induced dermatologic adverse events) and may be considered for other inflammatory skin disorders[1][2][3][4].
