timosaponin BII

Timosaponin BII is a steroidal saponin derived from the rhizome of the traditional Chinese medicinal herb *Anemarrhena asphodeloides* (Zhimu). Developed by Beijing Huahsu Pharmaceutical, it is being investigated as a therapeutic candidate for vascular dementia. The compound exhibits neuroprotective properties through several mechanisms, including the inhibition of beta-amyloid (Aβ) production by targeting beta-secretase 1 (BACE1), reduction of neuroinflammation via the inhibition of NF-kappaB signaling, and protection against oxidative stress. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its potential to improve cognitive deficits and protect neuronal integrity in models of dementia. It is currently undergoing early-phase clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics.
