Timothy grass SCIT (Subcutaneous Immunotherapy) is a biologic treatment consisting of allergen extracts derived from the pollen of *Phleum pratense*. It is indicated for the treatment of grass pollen-induced allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis in patients who have not responded adequately to symptomatic medications. The therapy involves a build-up phase of weekly subcutaneous injections followed by a maintenance phase of monthly injections, typically lasting three to five years. Its mechanism of action involves desensitizing the immune system by inducing regulatory T cells (Tregs), increasing the production of allergen-specific IgG4 (which acts as a blocking antibody), and reducing the recruitment and activation of mast cells, basophils, and eosinophils in target tissues. Clinical trials, such as NCT03558997, have also explored its use in combination with monoclonal antibodies like dupilumab to enhance efficacy and safety during the desensitization process.
