Timothy grass pollen allergen extract is a biologic used in allergen immunotherapy (AIT) for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. In the specific context of United Allergy Services (UAS), it is administered as subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) to desensitize patients to *Phleum pratense* allergens. The mechanism of action involves the induction of peripheral immune tolerance, characterized by a shift from a Th2-weighted immune response to a Th1 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) response. This modulation leads to the production of allergen-specific IgG4 "blocking" antibodies, which prevent IgE from binding to allergens and subsequently inhibit the degranulation of mast cells and basophils. UAS conducted an observational study to evaluate the efficacy of this extract in reducing symptoms of corn-based occupational rhinitis, utilizing the immunological cross-reactivity between Timothy grass and corn pollen allergens.
