Timothy grass subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) is an allergen-specific immunotherapy protocol utilized by United Allergy Services for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, specifically targeting corn-based occupational rhinitis. The therapy leverages the immunological cross-reactivity between timothy grass pollen and corn pollen. By administering gradually increasing doses of timothy grass pollen extract via subcutaneous injection, the treatment aims to desensitize the patient's immune system. This process induces a shift from a Th2-dominated allergic response to a Th1-mediated or regulatory T cell (Treg) response, leading to increased production of blocking antibodies such as IgG4 and regulatory cytokines like IL-10, thereby reducing clinical symptoms upon allergen exposure.
