TIMP1 antibody refers to a therapeutic monoclonal antibody designed to target and neutralize Tissue Inhibitor of Metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP1). TIMP1 is a key regulator of extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling that acts by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), particularly MMP2 and MMP9. In pathological conditions such as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and chronic liver inflammation, TIMP1 is often overexpressed, leading to the suppression of MMP activity and the subsequent accumulation of collagen, which results in hepatic fibrosis. By blocking TIMP1, these antibodies aim to restore the natural balance of ECM degradation, promote the regression of fibrotic tissue, and ameliorate overall disease severity. Research presented at the ACC 2026 meeting highlights TIMP1 as both a diagnostic plasma biomarker and a causative therapeutic target for identifying and treating at-risk severe steatotic liver disease.
