Timtraxanib (AVI-3207) is a peptide-based small molecule drug developed primarily for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration and retinal degeneration. It acts as a selective antagonist of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2), thereby inhibiting angiogenesis by blocking VEGFR2-mediated signaling pathways that promote endothelial cell proliferation and migration. This targeted inhibition reduces abnormal blood vessel formation in the retina, which is central to diseases like age-related macular degeneration.
