Overview

TIN-816 is an investigational drug developed by Novartis for the treatment of sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) and acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery. It is administered intravenously as a powder reconstituted in solution. The drug acts by targeting adenosine triphosphatase (ATP), with some sources also describing its mechanism as a CD39 antagonist, suggesting it modulates ATP signaling pathways involved in inflammation and thrombosis. By interfering with these pathways, TIN-816 aims to reduce inflammation and blood clot formation in the kidneys and other organs during sepsis, thereby improving kidney function and recovery from SA-AKI. The drug is currently in Phase 2 clinical trials for both sepsis-associated AKI and AKI following cardiac surgery[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
