Tineacide

Tineacide is a topical antifungal solution developed and manufactured by Blaine Labs Inc. (Blaine Company). Its active ingredient is 1% tolnaftate, a synthetic thiocarbamate small molecule. Tolnaftate works by inhibiting fungal squalene epoxidase, an enzyme essential for the synthesis of ergosterol. The resulting depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of squalene disrupts the integrity of the fungal cell membrane, leading to cell death. The product is formulated as an oil-based solution containing oil of oregano (carvacrol), safflower oil, jojoba oil, and mineral oil to assist in delivery. Tineacide is FDA-approved for the over-the-counter treatment of superficial dermatophyte infections, including tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea cruris (jock itch), and onychomycosis (nail fungus).
