Tinefcon

Tinefcon is a standardized botanical extract derived from the flowering and fruiting heads of the plant *Sphaeranthus indicus*. Developed by Piramal Enterprises Limited, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of plaque psoriasis. The drug functions as an immunomodulator by down-regulating the expression and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, specifically tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and the p40 subunit shared by interleukin-12 (IL-12) and interleukin-23 (IL-23), likely through the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. Clinical evaluations, including Phase II and Phase IV trials, have demonstrated its efficacy in improving Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) scores and reducing histopathological markers such as epidermal thickness and inflammatory cell infiltration. It is available in both oral (tablet) and topical (cream, cleanser) formulations and is noted for its favorable safety profile compared to conventional systemic immunosuppressants.
