Tinzaparin and dalteparin are both low molecular weight heparins (LMWHs) used as anticoagulants. They are produced by different depolymerization processes of unfractionated heparin. Tinzaparin is produced by enzymatic depolymerization (heparinase digestion) while dalteparin is produced by controlled nitrous acid depolymerization. Both drugs work by potentiating the activity of antithrombin III, which inhibits the formation of factor Xa and thrombin, with a preference for inactivating factor Xa. They are used for the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and other thromboembolic conditions.
