Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TIO Nickel is an oral nickel hyposensitization therapy developed by Lofarma SpA for the treatment of Systemic Nickel Allergy Syndrome (SNAS) and nickel-induced allergic contact dermatitis. The product consists of hard gelatin capsules containing varying low doses of nickel sulphate (NiSO4) as the active ingredient. It functions as an oral immunotherapy, where progressively increasing doses of the allergen are administered to induce immunological tolerance. This process aims to reduce systemic and cutaneous allergic responses, allowing patients to reintroduce nickel-rich foods into their diet and improving symptoms like gastrointestinal distress and dermatitis. The therapy has been validated in phase III clinical trials and is marketed for patients who suffer from systemic reactions to dietary nickel.
