Tioclomarol

Tioclomarol is an anticoagulant of the 4-hydroxycoumarin class and acts as a vitamin K antagonist. It is considered a second-generation drug in this category and is primarily used as a rodenticide to control rodents that are resistant to other anticoagulants of the same class. Tioclomarol functions by inhibiting vitamin K epoxide reductase, thereby blocking the recycling of vitamin K and reducing the synthesis of active clotting factors dependent on vitamin K. This mechanism disrupts blood coagulation processes[1][4][7]. While structurally related to warfarin and other coumarins used in human medicine for preventing thrombosis, its main application is non-medicinal (rodent control)[1][7].
