TiON is a professional dental whitening system developed by GC Corporation that utilizes a unique titanium dioxide (TiO2) photocatalyst to enhance the oxidative power of hydrogen peroxide. In clinical research conducted by the University of Melbourne, TiON has been investigated for its efficacy in the concealment and remineralisation of enamel white spot lesions (WSLs). The TiO2 catalyst allows for the generation of highly reactive hydroxyl radicals at lower peroxide concentrations than traditional bleaching systems, which effectively lightens the surrounding enamel to mask the appearance of WSLs. While primarily indicated for tooth whitening, its use in WSL management often involves a multi-step protocol including the application of remineralising agents like Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (CPP-ACP) to restore mineral density to the affected enamel.
