Overview
Tiotropium pMDI is an investigational pressurized metered-dose inhaler formulation of tiotropium bromide, a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA). Developed by Solventum (formerly 3M Health Care), this formulation is designed for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Tiotropium works by competitively and reversibly inhibiting muscarinic M3 receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, which prevents acetylcholine-induced bronchoconstriction and leads to prolonged bronchodilation. This pMDI formulation is being evaluated as an alternative delivery system to existing dry powder inhaler (DPI) and soft mist inhaler (SMI) versions of tiotropium, potentially offering different deposition profiles or improved patient convenience.
