Tipod CV

Tipod CV is an oral suspension antibiotic combination developed and marketed by Wonne International. It consists of two active pharmaceutical ingredients: cefpodoxime proxetil, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, and potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefpodoxime works by binding to and inhibiting penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which are essential for bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell lysis. Potassium clavulanate acts as a suicide inhibitor of beta-lactamase enzymes, which are produced by certain bacteria to degrade beta-lactam antibiotics. By inhibiting these enzymes, clavulanate protects cefpodoxime from degradation and extends its spectrum of activity against beta-lactamase-producing strains. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of various pediatric bacterial infections, including acute otitis media, respiratory tract infections, and urinary tract infections.
