Tir 8

Tir 8 (also known as SIGIRR or Single Ig IL-1-related receptor) is an immunomodulatory agent being developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) in Havana, Cuba. It is a member of the interleukin-1 receptor (IL-1R) family that functions as a negative regulator of IL-1R and Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling. By interfering with the recruitment of adapter proteins such as MyD88 and IRAK, Tir 8 inhibits the activation of NF-κB and the subsequent production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. This mechanism is being leveraged to treat chronic inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and to modulate the inflammatory microenvironment in various cancers. The project is currently in preclinical development.
