Overview
**Tiratricol** is an orally administered small-molecule thyroid hormone analogue and endogenous triiodothyronine metabolite. It is a thyroid hormone receptor agonist that can enter cells independently of monocarboxylate transporter 8, allowing thyroid hormone signaling to be restored in tissues affected by MCT8 deficiency while reducing the elevated circulating thyroid hormone burden responsible for peripheral thyrotoxicosis. Tiratricol is marketed as **Emcitate** for peripheral thyrotoxicosis associated with monocarboxylate transporter 8 deficiency, also known as Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome.
