Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tis-U-Sol is a sterile, non-pyrogenic, physiologic irrigating solution (Pentalyte) used for the topical irrigation of body joints, tissues, and wounds. It is a balanced salt solution containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium sulfate, dibasic sodium phosphate, and monobasic potassium phosphate. Developed by Travenol (now Baxter), it was designed to provide a physiological environment for tissues during surgical procedures, such as vascular washout, organ preservation, and intraocular irrigation. While it was historically used in various surgical contexts to maintain tissue viability and minimize edema, it has largely been superseded by other specialized solutions and is currently listed as discontinued in the United States.
