Overview

This combination therapy consists of tislelizumab and capecitabine. Tislelizumab is a humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody that targets the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor, functioning as an immune checkpoint inhibitor to enhance T-cell anti-tumor activity. Capecitabine is an oral fluoropyrimidine carbamate prodrug that is enzymatically converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) within the body, primarily in tumor tissues. 5-FU then inhibits thymidylate synthase, leading to the depletion of thymidine triphosphate and the inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell division. This specific regimen is being investigated by Fudan University as an adjuvant treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients who exhibit residual plasma Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA after completing definitive radiotherapy, a population at high risk for recurrence.
