Overview

This combination therapy consists of the PD-1 inhibitor tislelizumab and water-filtered infrared A (WIRA) whole-body hyperthermia. Tislelizumab is a humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody developed by BeiGene that binds to the Programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) receptor, blocking its interaction with PD-L1 and PD-L2 to enhance anti-tumor immune responses. In this specific regimen, WIRA whole-body hyperthermia (using the HECKEL 3000MT-4T device) is employed as a sensitizing agent to modulate the tumor microenvironment and improve the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibition. This approach is particularly targeted at advanced gastrointestinal tumors with a microsatellite-stable (MSS) or proficient mismatch repair (pMMR) phenotype, which typically show poor responses to monotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors. The regimen is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial led by Pengyuan Liu.
