Overview

Tissue-plasminogen activator (tPA) is a protein that facilitates the breakdown of blood clots by converting plasminogen into plasmin, the major enzyme responsible for clot dissolution. It is used in the treatment of ischemic strokes, pulmonary embolism, and myocardial infarction. tPA is a serine protease found on endothelial cells lining blood vessels and can be manufactured using recombinant biotechnology techniques.
