Overview

TissueGene-C (TG-C) is a first-in-class cell and gene therapy developed for the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly knee osteoarthritis. It consists of a mixture of human allogeneic chondrocytes and irradiated cells engineered to overexpress transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1). Administered as a single intra-articular injection, TG-C aims to relieve pain, improve joint function, and regenerate cartilage structure by creating an anti-inflammatory microenvironment dominated by M2 macrophages. Clinical trials have demonstrated its potential to provide long-term pain relief and functional improvement in patients with osteoarthritis. The therapy is being positioned as a disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD), potentially making it the first such approved therapy for this indication[3][4][5].
