Overview

TissuGlu is a single-use, lysine-derived urethane-based surgical adhesive designed for internal use to bond tissue layers together during large flap surgical procedures, such as abdominoplasty. It is applied as a viscous liquid using a hand-held applicator and cures in the presence of moisture from tissue surfaces, forming strong urethane cross-links that hold the tissue planes together. The cured adhesive gradually degrades into absorbable components as natural healing occurs. Its primary mechanism is to eliminate dead space between tissue planes, thereby reducing fluid accumulation and potentially eliminating the need for surgical drains. TissuGlu was developed by Cohera Medical and was the first synthetic internal-use adhesive approved by the FDA[1][2][3][4][5][7][8].
