Overview

Titanium-prepared platelet-rich fibrin (T-PRF) is an autologous, third-generation platelet concentrate used primarily in regenerative dentistry and oral surgery. Developed as an advancement over traditional leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF), T-PRF is produced by centrifuging a patient's blood in medical-grade titanium tubes rather than glass or plastic. The titanium surface is thought to be more biocompatible and a more potent activator of the coagulation cascade, resulting in a fibrin network with thicker fibers and a more organized structure. This dense fibrin matrix serves as a biological scaffold that provides a sustained release of essential growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). These factors promote angiogenesis, cell migration, and tissue healing. T-PRF is utilized to enhance wound healing and bone regeneration in procedures such as gingivectomy, sinus lifts, and alveolar ridge preservation.
