TIV or FluMist

TIV or FluMist refers to the two primary influenza vaccine options compared in the ACES (Assessing Choice in the Employer Setting) study conducted by MedImmune. FluMist is a live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) delivered via a nasal spray, containing cold-adapted, temperature-sensitive, attenuated influenza A and B virus reassortants. It is designed to replicate in the nasopharynx to induce both mucosal and systemic immunity. TIV (Trivalent Inactivated Vaccine) is a standard injectable vaccine containing inactivated (killed) influenza virus components, primarily inducing systemic IgG antibodies. The ACES study was an observational trial designed to evaluate whether offering employees a choice between the needle-free intranasal FluMist and the traditional injectable TIV would improve overall influenza vaccination rates and compliance in workplace settings compared to offering TIV alone.
