TIV or FluMist (MedImmune)

TIV or FluMist refers to the two vaccination options evaluated in the ACES (Assessing Choice in the Employer Setting) study, an observational trial that investigated whether offering employees a choice between different vaccine modalities would improve overall influenza immunization rates. FluMist, developed by MedImmune (a subsidiary of AstraZeneca), is a live attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) administered as an intranasal spray. It contains cold-adapted, temperature-sensitive influenza virus reassortants that replicate in the nasopharynx to stimulate a broad immune response. TIV (Trivalent Inactivated Vaccine) refers to the standard injectable influenza vaccines containing inactivated (killed) virus particles. The ACES study demonstrated that providing the option of a needle-free nasal spray alongside the traditional injection could enhance vaccine uptake in workplace settings.
