TIVc is a cell-based trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine designed for the prevention of influenza disease. It is manufactured using a mammalian cell line, such as Madin Darby Canine Kidney (MDCK) cells, a process that offers potential advantages over traditional egg-based vaccine production, including better matching to circulating wild flu viruses and faster manufacturing. The vaccine contains inactivated antigens from three specific influenza virus strains (typically two A subtypes and one B type) and works by inducing the body's immune system to produce humoral antibodies against the viral haemagglutinins, which then neutralize the influenza viruses.
