Overview

Tivirapine is a small molecule, benzodiazepine non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) that demonstrates activity against human immunodeficiency viruses 1 and 2 (HIV-1 and HIV-2), as well as simian immunodeficiency virus. It functions by inhibiting the replication of these viruses, including both wild-type and drug-resistant HIV-1 isolates. The drug has progressed to a maximum of Phase II clinical trials.
