Overview

Tivozanib is an oral, small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in adults who have failed at least two prior systemic therapies or whose disease has relapsed. It works by selectively inhibiting the phosphorylation of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR)-1, -2, and -3, thereby suppressing angiogenesis and tumor growth. Tivozanib also inhibits other kinases such as c-kit and platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFR-β). The drug was developed by Kyowa Kirin and is marketed under the brand name Fotivda by Aveo Oncology. Tivozanib was approved by the FDA in March 2021 for use in relapsed or refractory advanced RCC[3][5][6][8].
