tixagevimab

Tixagevimab is a recombinant human IgG1κ monoclonal antibody developed for the prevention of COVID-19. It is administered in combination with cilgavimab as pre-exposure prophylaxis for SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in individuals who are immunocompromised or cannot receive COVID-19 vaccines. Tixagevimab binds to a specific non-overlapping region of the receptor binding domain (RBD) on the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, blocking its interaction with the human Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor and thereby preventing viral entry into host cells. The antibody has been engineered to have an extended half-life and reduced effector functions through specific amino acid substitutions.
