TJ-062

TJ-062, also known as bofu-tsusho-san or TJ-62, is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine formulation under investigation for its anti-obesity and thermogenic effects. It is a small molecule drug composed of multiple herbal extracts. Preclinical studies in mice have shown that TJ-062 activates brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis and inhibits phosphodiesterase activity, leading to increased energy expenditure and reduced body weight without affecting food intake. The mechanism appears to involve enhanced GDP binding in BAT and inhibition of phosphodiesterase similar to caffeine. The product contains active components such as 1-E (likely ephedrine-type alkaloid) and d-PE (possibly p-synephrine or related compound), but the full composition includes several herbal extracts typical of Kampo formulas[1].
