TK-39 is a small molecule cardioprotective agent being developed by Tosk, Inc. to prevent the irreversible heart damage (cardiotoxicity) often caused by frontline cancer treatments. It is specifically designed to selectively block the permanent cardiac damage associated with anthracycline chemotherapies (such as doxorubicin, daunorubicin, and Doxil) as well as HER2-targeted therapies like trastuzumab (Herceptin) and pertuzumab (Perjeta). TK-39 was discovered using Tosk's proprietary Side Effect Fly technology, which utilizes fruit flies as a screening tool to identify compounds that mitigate treatment side effects without reducing anti-tumor efficacy. The drug is intended for use in patients undergoing treatment for various malignancies, including breast, lung, bladder, and stomach cancers, as well as leukemia and lymphoma. As of current reports, TK-39 is in the final stages of preclinical testing required to file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the US FDA.
