Overview

TK61406 is a proprietary probiotic strain of *Lactobacillus plantarum* developed by the Japanese food company Tokai Pickling Co., Ltd. (Tokai Tsukemono). Originally isolated from traditional Japanese fermented vegetables, the strain is characterized by its potent ability to induce the production of interleukin-12 (IL-12) from immune cells such as macrophages and dendritic cells. This induction of IL-12 is thought to promote a Th1-type immune response, potentially offering benefits for immune regulation and resistance to infections. TK61406 has been evaluated in clinical trials for safety and its effects on immune markers and organ-related parameters in healthy adults, positioning it as a functional food ingredient or nutraceutical for immune support.
