Overview

TKM-Marburg is an experimental therapeutic developed to treat Marburg virus infection, a highly fatal hemorrhagic fever caused by the Marburg virus. It consists of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). These siRNAs are designed to block the expression of Marburg viral genes, thereby inhibiting viral replication within host cells. The formulation was shown to rescue nonhuman primates from lethal Marburg virus infection, even when administration began as late as three days after exposure. It was originally developed by Tekmira Pharmaceuticals (now known as Arbutus Biopharma) as part of antiviral countermeasures against filoviruses like Ebola and Marburg[2][4][16][13].
