TLM-019 is a small molecule therapeutic candidate developed by Tsubota Laboratory for the treatment of dry eye disease. The drug is designed to act as a pharmacological mimetic of violet light (360–400 nm) exposure, which has been identified by Tsubota Laboratory's research as a critical regulator of ocular surface homeostasis. TLM-019 functions as an agonist of Opsin 5 (OPN5), also known as neuropsin, a non-visual photoreceptor expressed in the eye. Activation of the OPN5 pathway is believed to stimulate natural tear secretion and improve the stability of the tear film. TLM-019 is currently in Phase 2 clinical development as an ophthalmic solution.
